The Many Different Types of Dishwashers

A dishwasher is an automated machine used to dry food and clean utensils automatically. Unlike manual dish washing, which largely relies on physical scrubbing on the dishes to remove excessive soiling, the automatic dishwasher brushes, usually between thirty and forty °C, with lower temperatures applied for less sensitive items like pasta and rice. Gravity fed dishwashers, on the other hand, have the motor on a single pivot, much like a sewing machine, with the water tank attached to a frame just beneath the dishwasher’s water source. When the water pressure is sufficient, the motor feeds water through the pipe just like a water bottle, passing through a fixed spout before being released at the other end.

Another important difference is the presence of two racks inside the dishwasher. These racks, or trays, are designed to safely hold frequently used dishwasher items such as white and colored chips, vegetables, rice and pasta. While not strictly necessary, larger items such as soft drinks and coffee cans take up more space than dishes normally require. The presence of two racks allows for maximum use of the space available and prevents the clogging of one rack with a potentially larger item that is not wanted by the dishwasher’s settings.

The most recent model of American made dishwashers are electric, rather than gas, although gas loading dishwashers are starting to become available in Europe. Dishwashers come in all sizes and shapes and there is a dishwasher for every type of home and budget.
